Hibbleton Film Series presents profiles of American Activists
For the month of October, Hibbleton Gallery will host a film series entitled “Making America Great: Profiles of American Activists.” The series is curated by Bam Paul (founder of the Free Discussion Society). All screenings begin at 8pm and are FREE. Here’s the lineup of films:
October 6th: An Unreasonable Man (2006)
Filmmakers Henriette Mantel and Steve Krovan examine the notable career of activist and consumer advocate Ralph Nader. Using a blend of archival film footage and interviews, they chronicle his many accomplishments as well as his controversial bids for the presidency in 1996, 2000 and 2004.
October 13th: Free Angela & All Political Prisoners (2012)
A documentary that chronicles the life of young college professor Angela Davis. The film examines how her social activism got her name on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list and how she became an international political icon.
October 20th: Dolores (2017)
Dolores Huerta is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first farm workers union with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez, becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century.
October 27th: Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock (2017)
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota captured world attention through their peaceful resistance against the U.S. government’s plan to build an oil pipeline through their land.
