Pop Drop: New Prints by Ryan Shane Owen
You are cordially invited to the next art exhibit at Hibbleton Gallery, Pop Drop, featuring new prints by Ryan Shane Owen. The opening reception is Friday, September 1st from 6-10pm during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always, this event is FREE and open to the public.
Ryan Shane Owen’s latest exhibit, “Pop Drop” is a collection of gicleé ink prints on paper featuring bold, vibrant colors and shapes influenced by abstraction and graphic art. The subject matter, a variety of pop references, music promotion, and fan culture are interpreted as stylized compositions inspired by vintage advertising and classic poster art. The pieces are stylistically inspired by woodblock prints and silk screening, hand done techniques which Ryan has worked in extensively. These prints were first drawn by hand, then finished digitally, and printed with a high quality digital printing process usually used for reproductions of paintings. The velvety matte texture of the print surface combined with large areas of solid color creates a striking visual effect. Prints may be purchased through the gallery, and orders in various sizes are also an option.
Ryan Shane Owen is an artist and musician from Vancouver, BC. He has worked professionally in film and theater making props, sets and costumes, as well as in illustration, fashion, graphic design, and decorative painting. He has exhibited work including prints, paintings and sculptures since 2002. Ryan is inspired by music memorabilia, retro Americana, kitsch and pop culture, as well as op art, abstract expressionism, cubism, art deco, art nouveau and impressionism. He enjoys exploring the realm between “high-brow and lo-brow art”, and creating mash-ups of contrasting influences. He has worked in various mediums including digital illustration, ink drawing, silk screening, oil painting, assemblage, photography, animation, and video.
