Hibbleton Film Series Explores the Muslim-American Experience

For the month of March, the Hibbleton Gallery film series is pleased to partner with local filmmaker Ahmad Zahra to present a series of films exploring the Muslim-American experience. All screenings will take place at 8pm at Hibbleton Gallery. All screenings are free and open to the public. A discussion will follow each screening. Here’s the lineup of films, three of which were made by Zahra:

March 10th: AmericanEast (2008)

“AmericanEast” is a timely, poignant drama about Arab-Americans living in post-9/11 Los Angeles. The story examines long-held misunderstandings about Arabic and Islamic culture, and puts a human face on a segment of the U.S. population whom most Americans know nothing about, but who today are of particular interest to them, either from curiosity or suspicion. The story highlights the pressures under which many Arab-Americans now live by focusing on the points-of-view of three main characters. Directed by Hesham Issawi. Produced by Ahmad Zahra, Brian Cox, Anant Singh. Starring Tony Shalhoub, Sayed Badreya, Erick Avari, Anthony Azizi.
